ISTE's Operational Strategic Plan for 2009-2010. Here is a excerpt of the specific strategic plan goal pertaining to Remote NECC:Strategic Plan Goal 2: Membership Objective 2.B: Develop an enterprise-wide, 5-year plan that ensures sustainable, forward-looking, and strategic evolution of the ISTE member conference and exposition. 2.B.7: Develop, market, and implement an evolved version of the existing "Remote NECC" program to include:
revised/increased models for distribution,
communication/awareness plan to develop greater visibility within ISTE's membership,
identification of appropriate virtual user interfaces, and
an achievable business model for each aspect of the program.
Rational/Background: ISTE is under pressure to develop methodology to support remote participation in conferences/events. A number of frameworks already exists -- including IVC, "Remote ISTE", and ISTEVision -- but they have been somewhat "under-visible" and under-promoted. With economic constraints and realities what they are, coupled with a desire to expand participation globally, the development of a highly visible and marketable "remote" component of the annual conference is needed.
